Back to (Semi) Normal

**I am removing my previous post. I'm not changing my opinion, but my blog isn't supposed to be about the drama, it's about my life, thoughts and other stuff. Not shit that doesn't really matter. We all deal with/meet people we don't care for. I unfortunately handled it much like those I complain about. I apologize to my regular readers for sounding like a ten year old for a minute. Back to the regular stuff.

Finally, the weather seems to have calmed down. It left a fair share of damage behind though, and not just the ice and now slush on top of ice we're wading and driving through. In our county alone, there are over a thousand without power. We have shelters open for the people doing without, and I'm grateful we didn't lose more than the satellite for awhile. I cannot imagine trying to keep my kids sane in that sort of situation. Or myself. It's great that people are donating food and other items that are needed, though. It's pretty awesome when we can all band together like that, you know?

The kids went back to school today, on a delay, but still. They now have make-up days in summer, which sucks, but there was no working around this storm. We hit a Level 2 emergency and stayed there a couple days, and finally dropped to Level 1, but I don't think I've seen it quite that bad in a LONG time. When it was dark, it seriously looked as if the snow and roads were under a large piece of glass. There were no cracks or breaks, just a straight sheen of ice. It was pretty in a surreal way, but scary as hell when people you know are driving to and from work in it.

At least there's a semi normalcy happening again. We all had a major case of cabin fever, that's for sure. The kids actually wanted to go back to school... and I was more than ready for it. They spent most of last week bickering and picking at one another, and I felt like I was threatening, warning, or disciplining every five seconds. And wondering what it would be like to lock myself in the bathroom and let them finish each other off. Very, very tempting that.

Everyone seems in higher spirits, so I'll take that and run with it for now. Since it's forecasting snow for tomorrow... and Wednesday.... Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't interfere with getting people's power back on! Or cause any more outages or damages... it's been ridiculous! Here's hoping for an EARLY sign of spring!!!!!

I Was Gone For a Minute....

Hey there Internet! Long time no see, right? Life has taken over here at Casa Diva, and by the time I can sit down to blog, it's usually close to midnight, and I'm too tired to think of anything to say. Or make sense of what I could say.

We're covered in snow right now, with more coming down. The kids return to school was short lived- they've had two snow days already with more on the way, I'm assuming. Jake caught a bug that had him soaking in a temp bath at midnight Thursday night, with me coaxing Tylenol and cold drink into him to get his temperature down from 103. That always scares me, when they have high fevers like that. for the most part, they don't. We're lucky that way; we barely ever see much higher than an occasional 101. But I'm paranoid when any of them get sick- Lyss has a not so happy history with tonsillitis, and Jake with upper respiratory infections, and pneumonia.

She had strep-tonsillitis frequently throughout preschool, kindergarten and first grade, and man that is miserable stuff. Antibiotics, steroids (the right side of her throat and neck would swell like she had swallowed a baseball), and a kid so miserable and in pain that getting a drink in her was like torturing her. The last time she had it, she lay on the couch and just sobbed. It was the most awful thing.

He's had pneumonia twice.. and I watch them all like hawks when they get the hint of a sniffle. I've relaxed enough now that a sore throat for her doesn't have me mentally preparing for a midnight trip to the ER, and a head cold for him doesn't have me plotting a strategy to force him to take his antibiotics. But I watch. They usually hate me when they're sick; I'm at them all the time with drinks, Popsicles, and anything I can think of to keep them hydrated.

The snow has made things insane, though. The grocery store is constantly restocking, people are everywhere (you know, you need seven hundred rolls of toilet paper and all the milk you can shove into your cart, just in case... not to mention every single scented candle in Walmart....) We've had ice, then rain, then a "wintry mix"- all of which froze under the first thin layer of snow. Then melted a little during the day... and then froze again during the night. Repeat as necessary for days, and there you have it. Now the snow is pouring down, and I'm sensing either early dismissal or this being a one day back to school before a day or more off again.

Snow days right after a two week vacation? Makes kids cranky. And sick of being in the house. And with each other. And unable to speak without a whine in their voice, or a shriek when telling you, again, that their sibling has, again, looked at/touched/spoken to/walked past/sat next to/breathed on/smiled at/insert any and every single complaint humanly possible that will make one want to scream and yank their hair out here. And me? I'm all, "if you tell me one more thing? I'm going to pay him/her to look at you. For hours."

So.... yeah. By the time Iget five minutes to breath, I want to do it in a hot bathtub, or curled in a comfy chair with a blanket and a book. Or shaking and rocking in a corner, praying for Spring and no more snow days..... But, ya know, whatever.....

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Oh The Weather Outside is Frightful...

We've started snowy season here in Small Town Ohio. There was a little white on the ground yesterday morning, but it melted by afternoon. Last night, it snowed off and on throughout the evening-night, and man did it look impressive at times. Wind whipping, flakes flying. This morning it's icy and snowy... and the kids have school. On time, no delays. That's weird, because usually, they get the two hour delay deal with less weather issue than this. J drives them, and he saw an accident on the way to drop Jake, and saw someone almost spin out on the way back. Beautiful weather.

I was talking to my friend last night about how funny it is, the way your feelings for things change as you get older. when we were kids, we were all about the snow day. No school, playing outside until we were half frozen, coming in to hot chocolate or hot tea. Sometimes, it was apple cider with a cinnamon stick. We lived for those days- what was better than a free day to run wild or hang out with your friends all day long? And if those snow days happened on a Monday or Friday- a long weekend? Sweet!

Now that we're the adults, it's a little different. How bad will it get? Do we have everything we need in case it does get bad? Flashlights, batteries, etc., in case the power goes... and oh my God how long will they be out of school? LOL And those are valid concerns considering the last few winters I've wondered when Ohio became New England. 2 years ago (I think it was 2) they were out of school for around three weeks. Yeah. and the snow we've had hasn't even been the fun kind- it's so cold that it ends up crunchy and liable to cut your damn hands off. Snowballs? Sure, if you want to give someone a concussion. (Hmm... )

I'm not ready for the snow just yet. It seems like fall went too fast- we had a pretty mild summer, and then fall stopped in for a minute, if that. It was pretty warm up until the beginning of this month- a few cool/cold days scattered in, but winter has appeared with a bang now. Yippee. Do you feel my joy? LOL

So there is a nice fluff post about the weather. As usual (does it ever end??) there's a lot going on in my head, but nothing I seem able to put into (the right) words for a post, or even a conversation right now. So, it's weather. For the moment. Like everything else, it seems. For the moment.

A Hint of Spring

Finally, the snow seems to be melting. Hopefully for good (as I type this, I realize just how many times I've said or typed those words this winter). We have had umpteen snow days, delays, early dismissals (for snow as well as possible flooding due to melting snow) and zero time to actually enjoy it. Unless you want to slice yourself wide open- then go right ahead. The snow this last couple winters has been, in Lyss-peak, an ice sandwich: Layers of ice, then snow, then ice again, with a soft, deceptive layer of the powdery kid attractors on top. Snow, not blow ;) But, spring has been showing itself in spurts (albeit way too small spurts for me), and that has motivated me into a lot of clearing out.

My challenge this year is one I find myself coming back to a lot. (Like, every year.) And never truly finishing. I get a little done, then somehow... drift off into something else. I want a total clear out of all the clutter in my life. House clutter, mind and body clutter. Because sometimes we need a renovation just as much (if not more) than our house does. I think that's where the blog is going to come in- I find it becoming more and more than just a place to talk about the kids, or post funny pics of my cats. It is still that, always will be, but there's other stuff that needs to be said as well, and I guess you guys are going to come along for the ride. Buckle up!

I find myself doing a small bit each day. I have a habit of quitting the second I begin to feel overwhelmed,(and it honestly does not take much these days) so I don't allow myself to. I set a small goal and go for it- usually accomplishing something else along with it. That works for me, even if it's something as simple as finally folding some laundry and scrubbing the tub. It's one less thing to do tomorrow, and I'm happier for it. That spreads out, and slowly, everyone gets a little more smiley. And believe me, with the cabin fever happening around here, everyone needs all the smiles they can get!

Those cupboards are slowly taking shape- they're designated and organized how I want. I ended up with a new set of cookware (red!) and new dishes (a mocha-tan color.... think cafe au lait color) to push me onward in the organizing, and it's helped. I'm thinking coffee house, in the mocha/cafe au lait and deep reds, so the cookware and dishes are good at pushing me on. I'm pretty visual and instant gratification oriented (think impatient toddler, lol) so whatever pushes me through my chores (which I hate) is a plus. I want a spotless, organized house. I just want someone else to do it for me.

Basically, I want a total overhaul. In a lot of areas. Whatever it takes. And it may be hard, because we are pack rats, Jim and I, in house and in our minds. We need to clear it all out, toss out that crap from 1980 we'll never read, watch, play, look at again, and do the same with the crap in our hearts and heads that only continues to take up precious space with negative results or feelings. What we don't need is to pass it on. We need to pass on the good stuff, the special stuff, the family stories and memories that will give the good vibes and warm fuzzies to the kids. And we need to keep making our own. We are getting there. Day by day, we are getting there. For the first time in a long time, we're on the same page. In the same book. :)

So, that's the progress from here. Like I have said a million times before, it's all about the baby steps. And it isn't how fast you get there, it's what the journey actually means. I'm a big believer in that- every step in this journey we're each on means something. Good or bad, you learn. And it shapes you.

So, here's to journeys- yours, mine and all the rest. Enjoy each step, don't stop from falling, and dance like hell whenever you can~

Subscription Blues

So, I lost some readers, it seems. Boredom or feedburner issues? Hmmmm......

Other than that, it's yet another snow day. 2nd in a row. No head banging yet, or serious drinking in the corner. But it's early. It could happen. Especially since they Fight. About. Everything. All the time. And now we're using "doo doo head". I guess it's better than shit head, but still.....

In other news, I actually did get some of those cupboards cleaned out. So that helps. It makes me feel accomplished to see them cleaner and more organized. Baby steps to becoming an organizing queen? Probably not so much, but every little bit counts. Next it's the linen closet. So, ya know, maybe it can hold linens? LOL

Not much happenin' in my corner of the world today, but I wanted to at least say something. I'm starting to feel a little weird if I don't say something every other day at least. Addiction? Perhaps.

Is it just me with the feed issues? Are people leaving me? LOL Or is there some tech crap happening in the world of Internet? Maybe they're on strike because of snow days. I can see that as entirely possible.....
