Yesterday was the first day of school here at Casa Diva. 4th grade for Miss Lyss, 1st for Jake. She, of course, was beyond thrilled to be going back- school is one of her favorite things on the planet. Where she gets it? No idea! LOL He was reluctant, and after last year, who can really blame him. But, we were positive and encouraging, preparing him for the changes in advance, and we made it into the building with him all smiles.
This year marked the year of Jonas in our house, in the form of backpack, lunchbox, T-shirt, notebooks and jewelry. I admit, I rolled my eyes, but as a protest formed on my lips, memories of a neon orange lunchbox, as well as a hot pink and turquoise backpack flashed before my eyes. I shut my mouth and watched her get that look-you know the one- and had to grin. If she's lucky, she'll grin like that about those boys in 20 years.
Jake went SpongeBob.. again. He's reliable with it, at least-he has had a SpongeBob backpack every single year. But he likes it, and who needs an argument over that? It makes him happy, it makes us happy. And he's always eager to show off the new one. LOL
We got a note today that Jake is in the first grade regular class FULL TIME! That is HUGE, and something I had expected to happen later in the year, or maybe when pigs flew, to be perfectly honest. LOL But it marks a change, in the way he is seen and the attention that is paid. And? Not only is he in the regular class full time, he is in the class with the kids who are further along academically. That proves something to me- what he's capable of really isn't being ignored. Huge, huge steps. Both kids are happy and enjoying school, so far, and are excited about the things they're going to be doing this year. Major bonus, and something to give me a little room to take that deep breath I'm not finding these days.
Everything else... is still everything else. I wish I knew what to think, say, feel... I wish it were different, had been different, in a lot of ways. I always have. But it wasn't, it isn't, and it's very hard for someone like me to wrap my head around things happening as they are. Is it the right thing? Objectively, I can say absolutely. As a mom, a wife, a woman, complete with all those emotions... I honestly don't know. I have a lot of things on my mind, and I don't trust a lot of my feelings, or anyone elses'. No one is 100% selfless. No one in this particular situation is 100% open. And I don't say that with malice, I say that with my own hesitation and an understanding of everyone elses' involved. But I also know that everything happens for a reason, and we are not in control, we are not the ones with the real plans. So, I may not put my trust in anyone else, but I'm laying it at His doorstep and saying, ok. I get it. I've asked for guidance, for signs, and I have to trust what I've gotten back. It really isn't about me. It's about being the person I'm needed to be, for my husband, my children, and the others involved.
Sorry it's been so long, but my head has really been elsewhere lately. Lots happening, lots going to happen, and not much I can say without the veiled crap I have to work with right now. LOL Add to it, the PC crashed and I'm on J's laptop-which i HATE, btw- until further notice. But, I'm going to hang around this time I think. At least for a minute ;)
How was back to school Internet? How's things?

Kid Speak: Alyssa on Music (and Me on Why the "Jo Bros" Are Slowly Killing Me)
Kids are funny (and intuitive!). Alyssa, especially, is showing a lot of interest in music these days, and has some pretty definite opinions on things. Here are some critiques from my 8 year old music expert:
On "Summertime" and NKOTB:
"Jon's like oh can we just get this over with!" -while watching Summertime on TV.
"Danny says bring on the ladies! Bring it on!"
"Why don't they show more Danny?" (the kid loves Danny)
"Is that Joe's wife?" When I said she was an actress "wow, she's good at it." (snicker)
"Jordan looks bored. That must be his wife." (laughed my ass off on that one...)
"My Joe is way cuter." - comparing Joe Jonas to Joe McIntyre (sigh)
"Those girls need some clothes. Yuck!" The girls are all in bathing suits and short clothing... gotta say i liked her attitude on that.
"Mom why are you looking at him like that?" Um......
On other music: (Notice the Jonas Brothers issue... again and again and again....)
"Did she really??" On Katie Perry's "I Kissed A Girl". "Mom, you have cherry chapstick!" (Yeah, ok, but i never kissed Katie Perry... lol)
"Why don't they show Jonas Brothers on VH1? they should be number one. Every week. Forever." (again, sigh.)
"You probably like this song, huh Mom?" (Charlotte Sometimes "I Could Just Kill a Man." ahaha)
"They need a Jonas Brothers channel. Or just a Joe Jonas one."
"If anyone wants Joe, he's taken!" (meaning Joe Jonas. )
"Camp Rock has the best music. Better than this other stuff." Yes, of course it does.
"New Kids on the Block and Jonas Brothers should sing together. They're about the same." Um.... no.
This is my life right now. I watch her, listen to her music (over and over and OVER) and I'm honestly beginning to wonder why my parents didn't purposely deafen themselves when i was growing up. Hearing the same few song repeatedly, by the same trio of young men, is horrific. LOL Especially when she screams along to it, jumping around like a maniac. Yeah, she's her mother's daughter, all right. I think now that my parents must have been saints, because honestly? I'd like to send the "Jo Bros" on a trip to a deserted island... and all their music with them.......

Boy Band Central
My house is now boy band central, thanks to Lyss and me. We feed off each other, we giggle with each other. My husband may be contemplating doing something drastic. Like purposely going deaf. Or blind, cause he's having issues with my desktop wallpaper. He keeps moving the icons around to cover faces... I don't get it. **smirk**
Miss Lyss is now in full-blown Jonas Brothers mania. She has a favorite (Joe Jonas, and I applaud her for that name, lemme tell ya), she goes high pitched and glassy eyed when she sees/hears/talks about/anyone even vaguely mentions them. She can also recognize their speaking voices from the next room, and come running like the house is on fire and she's got to get out. Jim's all "WTF?" Me, I'm just rolling with it. I've been there, I've done it, I've enjoyed just like she's enjoying now. And I'm enjoying watching her, remembering being around that age (she's 8, I was 9) and being as batshit goofy as she is right now. lol Because really? I'm still that batshit goofy about things. I just hide it better at twenty nine than I did at nine.
And it's all coming full circle, as I've mentioned before (and will mention again, and again, and again, and did I say AGAIN?) as this NKOTB bus continues to roll. Not everyone gets it, and that's cool. I don't get a lot of people's taste in music, books, movies, etc. But this is more than music, to me, more than just a silly crush, etc., that I can reminisce about with a silly little smile. This was life, it was what got me through one hell of a lot of junk in those pre-teen and even teen years when angst was high and I was trying to find myself. NKOTB was also the only thing, ever, that my mother started me on that I latched on, enjoyed, and she enjoyed with me. A lot of my good memories with her are wrapped up in these guys. They mean a lot. Always have, always will. And they're yummy looking. Yummy.
So Lyss and I are making our own memories. And I'll encourage every step she takes on this boyband journey, because it's something to look back on. Every song, poster, whatever the hell else they come up with (and good lord, what they can come up with.. toilet paper people... seriously) . Because it's fun to be a girl, it's fun to like these boys. And they won't attempt to date her. Ever. Because she's brought home a phone number already. In second grade. Yeah.
But, the reason for the rambling is this- find something you enjoyed as a kid- really, truly found pleasure in, happiness, excitement, etc., and pass it on. Or try to. Or watch your kids find something they get that look about and run with it. Making memories like the ones I have? The ones I hope she'll have? There's nothin' better than that.
