Summertime (or Something Like It!)

I had started a post yesterday about Jake and what's happening right now with school, behaviors at school, their reactions, etc. It was a venting post, and as I wrote I was getting more worked up, more upset, rather than calming down as I usually do when I'm writing. So I nixed it, for now. I need to try and step away from it, focus on all the fun, positive, funny things going on in our lives and deal with the school system as needed, not stress over it 24-7. So I'm not going to talk about people's inability to handle a child properly. I won't tell you how "different" can still mean ostracized or persecuted, even in a special needs classroom. I won't dignify with remark how even teachers blatantly lie on a child. (Nope, this isn't me being blind, this is me knowing Jake's limitations when it comes to specific wording and conversation.) And I won't mention the fact that Jake's anger issues? Nothing in comparison to Mom's when you back her, or her kid, in a corner.

Instead, I'll focus on the good stuff, the fun stuff. Winter's given way to April showers with warm weather. And even the showers haven't been frequent yet- mostly it's been sunny and slowly getting warmer. The smell of freshly cut grass seeps through the screens in the windows and door, signaling it's time to go outside, run barefoot and play.

I adore summer. I always did. Playing till dark, hot dogs from the grill, kids with Popsicle stains on their faces or shirts. Kool-Aid mustaches...lol. It was always a blast, and still is. Fourth of July picnics, fireworks... I could go on and on. Summer brings out a good side to me, one I don't see a lot of these days. A more kid like me emerges and wants to run wild. It's not about therapy or medication, techniques or teachers, IEPs or attitudes. We can all run wild in summer, play hard and sleep harder. Run off the anger or energy, laugh and play.

Summer is coming, and I am so ready. It's flowers and family, friends and a beer on a lazy afternoon. Sprinklers and sparklers, laughter in the dark. It's innocence, all in a season. It's mine, this summer time, and I wait for it with open arms.

Girl, you said a mouthful, even NOT saying it!
I am beyond ready for summer vacation and a respite from the stupidity of school and their schoolish crapola. I think I'm more impatient for school to over than the kids!

No more pencils
no more books
no more teacher's dirty looks

Good luck with the classroom issues, and remember that you're his best advocate. I hope the school/teachers come around.

But I'm glad you're enjoying all the best things about warm weather and summer. They are very good things. Love your description of them.

We are so done with school around here too. Been on break for a week, and they are dreading going back. Not long now.

And I am sorry for your struggles. If you need any help or info, let me know. I'm happy to help Autumn, and I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

That is stinky...well, school issues can be a real pain in the behind. I hope it gets better for you in that department.
As for summer, you said it girl! I am so psyched and I am a lover of all good hot weather activities, sprinklers, swimming, cold corona's and lots of ice cream! Now I am really in the mood.
